About us

We have established a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for the Energy-Water Nexus in partnership with Heriot-Watt University, UK, to tackle the interdependency of these vital resources. This nexus poses significant challenges for sustainable development, as energy systems require substantial amounts of water and water systems are energy-intensive. Our mission is to create a global hub for integrated solutions through interdisciplinary research on technologies like renewable-integrated desalination and solar hydrogen, while developing policy frameworks and decision-support tools. The CoE will enhance collaboration among researchers in various fields, boosting our institute's research output and citations. We aim to transform student skills by integrating nexus thinking into the curriculum, launching certification programs, and providing hands-on research opportunities. This initiative aligns with national priorities, making the CoE a strong candidate for government funding. By cultivating a new generation of professionals and promoting innovation, we seek to optimise resource use and build a sustainable future in energy and water management.

Vision

To become a global leader in advancing innovative, sustainable solutions at the intersection of energy and water, driving interdisciplinary research that addresses the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.

Mission

  • To conduct pioneering research on clean energy production, water purification, and integrated energy–water systems.
  • To foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government for scalable technologies.
  • To train the next generation of scientists and engineers in sustainable development and advanced materials
  • To accelerate the translation of fundamental research into real-world applications that support a sustainable future.

The Centre will partner with global research institutions from the UK, EU, and Asia-Pacific to advance sustainable solutions. It directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
