Biography
R. Sudhakar is currently the Dean–Student Research and Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. He received the B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 1990 from the University of Madras, Chennai, and the M.E. degree in Communication Systems in 2002 from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai. He received his Ph.D. degree in Information and Communication Engineering from PSG College of Technology, affiliated with Anna University, Chennai, in 2007. He has 27 years of teaching experience and 3 years of industry experience. His areas of research include digital image processing, data compression, wavelet transforms, digital signal processing, and communication systems.
Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Access, a multidisciplinary journal published by IEEE, and IET Image Processing by Wiley. He is also a reviewer for more than 40 international journals, including IEEE Transactions journals published by IEEE; the International Arab Journal of Information Technology from Zarqa University; the International Journal of Computer and Electrical Engineering and the International Journal of Computer Theory and Engineering published by International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT); the Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Research; Optical Engineering and Journal of Electronic Imaging published by SPIE, USA; the Imaging Science Journal published by Taylor & Francis; the International Journal of Computational Science and Engineering, the International Journal of Image Mining, and the International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Technology published by Inderscience Publishers; the Journal for Image Analysis and Stereology from the International Society for Stereology; ETRI Journal; AEUE – International Journal of Electronics and Communications by Elsevier; and IET Signal Processing.
He authored two books titled Research Issues in Image Compression Using Wavelet Variants and Practicing Signals and Systems Laboratory Using MATLAB, both published by Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany (2010). He also contributed two book chapters titled Wavelet-Based Image Compression in Computational Intelligence Techniques in Handling Image Processing and Pattern Recognition published by Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany (2010), and Analysis of Hand Vein Images Using Hybrid Techniques in Hybrid Intelligence Techniques for Image Analysis and Understanding published by Wiley.
He has edited seven books titled Effective Video Coding for Multimedia Applications, Applications of Digital Signal Processing Through Practical Approach, Recent Advances in Image and Video Coding, Wavelet Theory and Its Applications, Coding Theory, Coding Theory – Recent Advances, New Perspectives and Applications, and Biometrics and Cryptography, all published by IntechOpen, Croatia (2011, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024). He received the Outstanding Associate Editor Award from IEEE Access for the years 2019, 2024, and 2025.
He has published more than 140 papers in international and national journals, as well as conference proceedings.
Additional Highlights
10 scholars have completed their Ph.D. under his supervision. He is currently an Associate Editor for IEEE Access and IET Image Processing. He received the Outstanding Associate Editor Award from IEEE Access for the years 2019, 2024, and 2025.
He is an active reviewer for 40 journals, the majority of which are IEEE Transactions journals. He has also delivered more than 50 lectures in various FDPs and workshops.
