About the Department
The Department of Robotics and Automation Engineering at KGiSL Institute of Technology (KiTE) aims at fostering future-proofed engineers who can create smart automation solutions. The Department was formed to address the increasing need for automation engineers. It gives them skills which cut across Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Industrial Automation, Internet of Things (IoT), Embedded Systems, Control Systems, Computer Vision, and Smart Manufacturing.
The curriculum has been designed in a way that the students learn from strong fundamentals and ample opportunities to work in the labs and projects with industry connections. The Department encourages the students to think of practical engineering problems using their knowledge in mechanics, electronics, programming, and smart automation.
The Department focuses on fostering innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and industry connection in its students. This is aimed at ensuring that students become well-prepared for jobs in advanced manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, health care, logistics, robot start-ups, and Industry 4.0. Through constant interaction with industry experts and researchers, students acquire technical expertise and problem-solving skills.

Professor & Head of Department
Dr.P. Vetrivelan completed B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur (Madras University), in the year 1997. He completed M.S. (By Research) from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore under Anna University in the year 2007. He completed his Ph.D. from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore under Anna University Chennai in 2014. He has published 50 papers in International Journals & Conferences and 2 papers in National Journals. He has received funds / grant in aid sum of Rs.7 lakhs from AICTE, ISTE, Anna University, IEEE etc. He has published 2 patents. Also, published one book and 6 book chapters. He has 28 years of experience and is currently working as Professor and Head in the Department of Robotics and Automation at KGiSL Institute of Technology. His main research interests include Communication Systems, Signal and Image Processing. He received “Outstanding Educator & Scholar award” from National Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development (NFED) in 2014 and “Excellence in Education award 2025” from Masters Professional Academy in 2025.
