Fracture Mechanics in Mechanical Engineering

Biography

Dr. M. Joemax Agu serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering with over 15 years of teaching, research, and academic leadership experience. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Fracture Mechanics) from Anna University.

His areas of specialization include Fracture Mechanics, Finite Element Analysis, Pressure Vessel Design, and Composite Materials. He has published more than 15 research papers in reputed international journals, including publications indexed by Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, and Springer.

He has successfully secured research funding exceeding ₹90 lakhs, including an AICTE grant for establishing an IDEA Lab. He is a recognized Ph.D. Supervisor under Anna University and has guided numerous undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) projects in Design, Fracture Mechanics, and Automotive Engineering.

As Head of the Vehicle Development Cell, he led student teams in designing and fabricating Go-Karts and e-Karts and received the Best Faculty Advisor Award (2024) from the Academy of Indigenous Motor Sports. He has also played a key leadership role in NAAC and NBA accreditation processes, serving as Criteria Lead and IQAC Coordinator, contributing significantly to institutional quality enhancement.

He has organized value-added courses on Autodesk Inventor and NDT – Ultrasonic Testing, completed Industrial Training in Industry 4.0, and actively promoted industry–institute collaboration through MoUs and partnership initiatives.

His research interests include Fracture Toughness Evaluation, Failure Assessment of Pressure Vessels, Composite Materials, Sustainable Manufacturing, and Computational Modeling. He is proficient in ANSYS, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, MATLAB, and other design and simulation tools. He is committed to innovation-driven teaching and Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
