ECE DEPARTMENT LAB FACILITIES

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is well equipped with high-end design and analysis laboratories which are used extensively by the students and faculty members for their curriculum and research activities. The Department has fully equipped, well-established laboratories with a range of sophisticated equipment and design softwares like VHDL, Verilog (VLSI – Xilinx, Active HDL, Proteus, Modelsim and Pspice – MultiSim, OrCAD etc, including microprocessor and micro controller interfacing tools as prescribed by the curriculum. It also consists of modern microwave and advanced communication laboratories. All the laboratories are well planned and spacious to accommodate the students as per the AICTE and Anna University norms. Additional equipment is also available to enhance the research area for both faculty members and students in the department.

Linear Integrated Services Lab:

This laboratory has state-of-the-art electronic equipment including Industry-standard Digital Oscilloscopes and Signal Generators. This lab aims at making the students learn about Linear Integrated Circuit design, 555 Timer, Analog communication systems, Logic designing and implementing them using hardware. Linear Integrated Circuits lab provides facilities to design oscillators, amplifiers, filters using operational amplifiers. LIC lab inculcates students to analyze the working of PLL and use PLL as frequency multiplier. Also students can design DC power supply using ICs and they can analyze the performance of oscillators and multi vibrators using SPICE.

Optical and Microwave Lab:

Microwave devices are fundamental to many modem electronic systems, including digital wireless communications. Microwave section inculcates students to acquire familiarization in Characteristics of Reflex Klystron, Gunn diode Oscillator, VSWR measurements, Frequency and Wavelength Measurement, Study of Power Distribution of Directional Coupler, E-Plane Tee, H-Plane Tee, Magic Tee, Isolator, Circulator, Attenuation and Power Measurement, Radiation Pattern of various antennas.
Optical section inculcates students to acquire familiarization in characteristics of LED, LASER, PIN diode and Measurement of various losses, Attenuation, WDM and Data communication using fibers.

VLSI Design Lab:

Advanced features and techniques of VLSI design provides students to design and develop complex VLSI systems and enables them to improve their designs by using the tools available in the laboratory. Labs provide hands-on experience with the development, verification, debugging and simulation of a VLSI architectures. The VLSI lab fully equipped with higher end desktop computers and FPGA trainer kits. The students can implement their VLSI circuits in to FPGA and verify their design. The application like stepper motor control, traffic light control also can be performed using FPGA trainer kit. Students can also utilize various open source software to design and implement their VLSI architectures.

MICROPROCESSOR AND MICROCONTROLLER LAB:

The main aim of this lab is to impart the knowledge of programming skills by using microprocessor and microcontroller. This lab is used to study and executing various programs like arithmetic operations, code conversions, searching and sorting algorithms using microprocessor kits like 8085 ,8086 and microcontroller kit 8051. Interfacing of microprocessor and microcontroller to various peripheral devices to perform A/D and D/A conversions, Displays, Digital clock also studied and executed. This Lab is enhanced with interfacing boards such as 8279, 8255,8251, 8253,ADC,DAC,stepper motor, DC Motor ,Printer ,seven segment display and traffic light controller.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING LAB:

Electrical Engineering Lab is used to expose the student knowledge and skills in operating and analyzing the performance of DC generators, DC Motors, Alternators, Synchronous motors, Induction Motors and Transformers. The Electrical lab covers practical experiments on transformers: open circuit, and compound DC machines; induction machines, no-load, and load tests; operation of single-phase induction motors; operation of a synchronous machine connected to a large external source. By performing experiments on these electrical machines, the practical knowledge of the students gets enlarged and that will very helpful in their industrial career.

Computer Networks Lab:

Computer Networks lab is equipped with various latest hardware and user-friendly network related software. This lab helps the students to understand the communication between two systems. To acquire knowledge about configuring the systems with different topologies, to communicate with various protocols of OSI model, to provide security related encryption and decryption mechanism. Software related experiments can be conducted for performing Error Detection / Error Correction, High Level Data Link Control, Study of Socket Programming and Client – Server mode and socket Program for Echo/Ping/Talk commands. In this lab to analyses the performance of network with CSMA / CA protocol and compare with CSMA/CD protocols. Also, to implement various algorithms like distance vector routing algorithm, Link state routing algorithm and Congestion Control Algorithms using Network simulator.

ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS LAB:

Electronic circuit lab inculcates students to study the characteristics of CE,CB,CC Amplifier, Transfer characteristic of differential amplifier and frequency response of CS Amplifiers. The student can perform experiment to obtain the bandwidth of single stage, multistage amplifiers and they also perform Spice simulation of electronic Circuits. Electronic circuit lab provides knowledge in designing electronic circuits, learn simulation software used in circuit designing and to understand Bias in Amplifier circuits

The students will be working with basic components and equipments. The students also design and test various circuits using theorems studied in circuit theory and principles of basic electronics and electricals. The students in turn avail the hands-on experience with all the electronic and electricals equipment’s.
