The objective of civil laboratory is to study the geologic factors that affect the location, design, construction, operation and maintenance of different civil engineering structures.

Strength of Materials Lab - I

Demonstrating the basic principles in the area of strength and mechanics of materials and structural analysis to the undergraduate students through a series of experiments is the objective of the Strength of Materials lab. Measuring the properties of the materials such as impact strength, tensile strength, compressive strength, hardness, and ductility are conducted in the lab.

Major Equipments Strength of Materials Lab:

Universal testing machine, Torsion testing machine, Impact testing machine, Brinell hardness testing machine, Rockwell hardness testing machine, etc.

Laboratory Subjects Covered:

  • Strength of materials - I
  • Strength of materials - II
  • Engineering mechanics

Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory

Hydraulic engineering is the application of the principles of fluid mechanics to problems dealing with the collection, storage, control, transport, regulation, measurement, and use of water.

1. An air flow apparatus to measure head losses for flow through plastic pipes, velocity profiles across a pipe, and flow through a venturimeter.

2. A pipe network to measure head losses through individual pipes, pipes in parallel, and pipes in series.

3. A testing apparatus to develop characteristic curves for pumps and turbines.

Laboratory Subjects Covered:

  • Fluid mechanics
  • Applied hydraulic engineering
  • Hydrology

Surveying Laboratory

Surveying takes the foremost place in planning, designing and execution of any kind of construction work. Moreover, knowledge in surveying plays a vital role in the professional practice of civil engineers and architects. Hence, the students are introduced to a course on surveying and are , provided with ample time and equipments to perform the field exercises on their own.

The survey lab Consists of Total station, GPS, Electronic theodolite, , Transit theodolite, dumpy levels, plane tables, compass etc.,

Laboratory Subjects Covered:

  • Surveying - I & II
  • Estimation and Quantity Surveying

Soil Mechanics Laboratory

The objective of soil mechanics and geotechnical lab is to check the basic properties of soil of a certain area that is to be used for construction purpose. Soil properties include Atterbergs limits, bearing capacity, liquid limit, plastic limit, moisture content, etc.

Laboratory Subjects Covered:

  • Engineering Geology
  • Soil mechanics
  • Foundation Engineering

Construction Materials Laboratory

The objective of concrete laboratory is to determine the physical properties of building construction materials like cement, fine and coarse aggregate, steel, wood, and strength characteristics of cement mortar, plain cement concrete and reinforced cement concrete.
